Science on Ice: All The Most Incredible Discoveries

Red Ice
Plenty of mysterious phenomena take place in Antarctica. Among these strange occurrences is the aptly named Blood Falls glacier, which produces a bright red stream of water. While it certainly does appear to be blood, it is actually just water loaded with tons of iron, so it’s not as creepy as it first appears. Fun side fact: this is also the reason Mars is red all over.

What’s weird though is that scientists have not yet discovered where the iron is coming from. While it does seem like a demonic creature might reside at the source of the body of water, all signs point to it being completely harmless. It is just the result of an odd mixture of geology, oceanography, and glaciology. It would make a great backdrop for a horror movie, though.
