The Final Dive
Poor birds: they were only trying to look for some food. Little did they know that the sharp dive they were about to take would be their last. Upon contact, the water completely froze around them, and the unfortunate little beasts were trapped. Sadly, a snap freeze had blown through and so water beneath the surface turned to ice in a matter of seconds.
More often than not, it is members of the kingfisher species who suffer this awful fate. These particular specimens were discovered in Weisendorf, northern Bavaria. Sadly, unlike the alligator, the kingfisher does not have the capacity to survive such a state of frozenness. Perhaps Snow White should warn all her feathered friends that swimming during the winter might not be such a good idea.
