Castle moats might look like something out of a fairytale, where you can take a dip with the handsome prince or beautiful princess after strolling around the castle grounds. A word of advice though: they might look enticing, but you do not want to swim in one.
A moat is a deep and broad ditch usually filled with water that surrounds a castle. It was built in the past as part of a castle’s line of defense. However, it was also where the residents of the castle dumped their human waste and food scraps. Not exactly the kind of soup you want to be swimming in.
