Humans take up a lot of resources on the planet, sometimes even causing the extinction of other lifeforms. An example of this can be found with the silphium plant, which was used by the ancient Romans as an effective, natural method of birth control.
Unfortunately, they loved it so much and used it so often that it went extinct, even before the fall of the Roman Empire. Apart from birth control, silphium was also used as a seasoning and perfume. The only memory we have of it now is the picture of the plant on these coins.
