Girl With a Black Eye
If Forrest’s scene wherein he sat outside the principal’s office while waiting for his mother looked familiar to you, that would be because it was inspired by Norman Rockwell’s painting, “Girl with a Black Eye.” The painting appeared on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post on the 23rd of May, 1953.

The painting was Rockwell’s 277th to appear on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post, out of a total of 322 paintings. His model, Mary Whalen, appeared thrice on the cover and Rockwell said that she was the best model he’d ever encountered.
