Amazing Amputee Effects
Gary Sinise played the character of Lt. Dan Taylor, Forrest’s platoon leader during the war. He ended up losing both of his legs during the battle, living as a double amputee in his wheelchair. Sinise wore blue fabric on his legs to make editing out the legs easier with the help of a computer.
Sinise was surprised at how it all turned out in the finished film, saying that the effects were stunning and flawless. Zemeckis and Ken Ralston, special effects supervisor, were constantly on top of the shoots, making sure that every scene was filmed correctly so they could add the special effects during the editing stage.
