One Lucky Tourist
In the scene where Forrest Gump went to Washington DC to receive a medal of honor, the reporter who interviewed him wasn’t really an actor. It was a lucky tourist who got the opportunity to star in a film that would eventually become an American classic.
The tourist was from Atlanta and as luck would have it, he was visiting DC with his wife the day that scene was being filmed. The producers spotted him, liked his look, and asked him to read some lines in the script. Evidently, he did an awesome job during his reading as it landed him a role in the film.
