He’s A Shakespeare Aficionado
Fortunately for Keanu, portraying a slacker in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure did not typecast him as a kooky character. As a fan of Shakespeare, he was excited to have been cast as Don John in the movie adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in 1993. You may remember, this was not the first Shakespearean role that Keanu took on.
Back in Canada, he played the role of Mercutio in the stage production, Romeo and Juliet. He also went on to star in Hamlet at the Manitoba Theater Center. This opportunity was so important to him that he turned down two major films for it, including Al Pacino and Robert De Niro’s Heat.
