When Frank and Erica rescued the baby deer and brought him to the shelter, they wanted to make sure that they followed a plan to ensure his recovery. At first, their main concern was to medically manage any obvious injuries and to make sure that the deer had everything it needed to recover physically.
Once the young animal was strong enough and was able to get back on his feet, the couple wanted to return the deer to its natural environment. They had to make sure first that the youngster was capable of surviving on its own before setting him free. The last thing they wanted was for him to end up in another shelter again… or worse!
