If you happen to be visiting someone’s home in Iran, there is a social custom called Taarof that you need to take note of. Taarof is an Iranian form of civility that emphasizes deference and social rank. It is a custom that is deeply ingrained in Iranian culture and encompasses a wide range of social behaviors.
For instance, it is customary for you to refuse your host’s offer of more food, even if you are still hungry. Iranians usually refuse twice to avoid coming across as greedy. If you are offered a third time, then you may happily accept.
