Before the Iranian revolution in the late 1970s, Iran’s literacy rate was at just 37%. Since the revolution, the Iranian government has continued to overhaul and modernize the country’s education system, which eventually allowed the literacy rate to rise to an impressive all-time high of 97%.
Today, Iran’s educational system is highly centralized, supervised by the Ministry of Education. Higher education, meanwhile, is under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
