The Land of Lincoln, Part 2
One of the trademark dishes of Illinois is the Chicago-style deep dish pizza. Basically, it’s a regular pizza on the outside but has at least two inches of cheese and tomato filling inside. It is not certain who we have to thank for this ingenious invention, but it is believed to have been created in 1943 in Pizzeria Uno by founder, Ike Sewell. Also, while most of the world views pepperoni as its primary pizza topping, Chicago uses sausage.

If this classic Chicago deep dish pizza did not make you drool, you are probably devoid of emotion. Just one look at that scrumptious photo makes me salivate as though I’m about to bite into it. If we’re talking about health though, this massive pizza can’t be good for the body. Even just one slice is probably worth 3,000 calories, so if you are thinking about heading to Illinois for one of these bad boys, you may want to reconsider.
