The Aloha State, Part 2
There is probably no other state in the country that loves SPAM the same way Hawaii does. In this region, the canned good is considered a delicacy and is served and eaten in dizzying quantities. Other states may see SPAM as spam, but Hawaii holds it dear to its heart. Apparently, during World War II, the state relied heavily on the canned meat for sustenance. Decades later, the love for SPAM remains.
If you visit any Hawaiian household, you will find at least ten cans of SPAM in the pantry. It also does not matter what time of day it is, SPAM is perfect for breakfast, lunch, snacks, or dinner. Every year, Hawaii consumers more than seven million cans of Spam, making the state the number one consumer in the entire country. In fact, the canned meat is so popular it has even earned the moniker, “The Hawaiian Steak.” Even Hawaiian McDonald’s and Burger King offer SPAM dishes on their menus.
