The Equality State
Wyoming is called the “Equality State” because it was the first to establish equal voting rights for women. In 1889, the Wyoming state convention approved a provision in the constitution to allow women suffrage. The fact that it was the first state in the country to allow women to vote came as a surprise because the East had more progressives states and suffragist leaders.
Only in Wyoming can you travel to work not just with fellow humans, but with herds of buffalo as well. If you don’t want to get caught in Wyoming’s morning buffalo traffic rush, then I suggest you leave the house early.
