The Volunteer State
Tennessee’s nickname, “The Volunteer State,” could possibly be attributed to the fact that volunteer soldiers played a huge role during the War of 1812, specifically in the Battle of New Orleans. Some argue though that the moniker was derived from its multitude of volunteers who came to serve during the Mexican-American War. President Polk called for 2,600 volunteers nationwide, and Tennessee alone provided 30,000.

Since Tennessee was built on being a home for soldiers, it is natural for army pants to be a common outfit of choice among its citizens. If you want to fit right in, go get yourself a pair of camouflage pants. In the image above, a group of Tennessee locals can be seen geared up, pistols in hand, doing their best to look war-ready for the camera.
