The Aloha State
Hawaii received statehood on August 21, 1959, making it the 50th and final state to join the US. It is located in Oceania, making it the only US state that is not in North America. It is also the only state that consists entirely of islands. With its diverse scenery, warm climate, and majestic beaches, it has become a famous tourist destination.
Hawaii may be famous for its pristine beaches, but it also sits atop active volcanoes; which means, it could be entirely devoured by lava and/or the Pacific Ocean at any time. See the image above? Yep, that’s a school bus, or rather, what’s left of one. Apart from the roof, the bus has been swallowed entirely by lava.
