Chauncy Had Nothing
Based on how little he knew about Chauncy Jones Black, Matt White felt terrible for him. In his mind, he could not help but wonder what happened to the kid and what made him resort to such desperate measures. Matt also found himself completely struck by his awe-inspiring approach. He felt compelled to get to know the young man more.
The two started walking toward the doughnut store together as Chauncy shared more about who he was. As it turns out, Chauncy and his mom lived a marginal life. They owned barely anything, the boy explained. They did not even have a phone. All he had were the clothes on his back and the bus pass he used to travel to the grocery store.
