A Pack Of Glazed Doughnuts
Chauncy Jones Black was obviously famished, but he was determined to get a job. As Matt White later recalled, Chauncy looked hungry, ashamed, and broken. He humbly asked Matt if there was anything he could do for him, anything at all, in exchange for a bit of food.
Chauncy asked Matt if he could carry his grocery bags to his car for a pack of glazed doughnuts, and in Matt’s mind, he screamed a definite, “Yes, of course!” On the outside, Matt chuckled and responded, “yes dude, let’s get you some doughnuts.” As you might have guessed, the night did not end with just a dozen doughnuts. Rather, it marked the beginning of a life-long friendship.
