Unwanted Attention
It’s not like Chauncy’s popularity made him as much of a household name as Brad Pitt, but the publicity he earned from the viral Facebook post did attract some unwanted attention. With news of him earning over $300,000 almost overnight, the Black family had to be careful about the people they were dealing with, especially so-called friends.
Along with all that money came a ton of pressure from friends and relatives whom the Black family had not been in communication with for ages. Barbara shared, “My relatives were asking me to help them with business and all that kind of stuff once we got the money.” With all the family and friends they suddenly had present in their lives (who, for the record, were nowhere to be seen while Chauncy and Barbara were suffering), caution was needed more than ever.
