Thank You, Opportunity Lander
You might dismiss this image as a plain illustration of random pits in the Eagle Crater on Mars. However, it actually has a deeper significance. If you take a closer look at the image, you will find a small dot that is actually the lander that brought the Mars Opportunity rover to the Red Planet’s surface back in 2004.
Another small round pit is seen on the lower left-hand corner of the picture: that is the lander’s backshell and parachute. This noteworthy image of the landing crater was shared by NASA in April 2017. It is truly a sight to behold.
