Deep Impact
In 2017, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured a strange circular indentation on the planet’s surface. While NASA is yet to provide a definitive explanation as to what this strange pit is, the most likely theory is that it’s a crater formed from an impact.
The crater is located in the planet’s south pole region. During the late summer season, especially when the sun is low, the pit really stands out from its surrounding landscape. NASA estimates that whatever it is that caused the crater was around 1.5 meters or five feet wide. Sadly, there is no way for the team to further analyze the suspected collision pit at this stage.
