The Mars Meteorite
Though it may look like it, this is not a macro shot of a scoop of slowly melting ice-cream. Taken in 2016 by NASA’s Curiosity rover, this strange object is actually a tiny iron meteorite. It was located during the rover’s probe around the base of Mount Sharp in the Gale crater.
The meteorite may be extremely tiny, much smaller than the palm of your hand, but the rover was able to provide a heavily zoomed image, allowing us to see the complexity of the little dude’s surface. NASA scientists dubbed the meteorite “Egg Rock.”
