A Curious Piece of Plastic
For eight years, the Mars Curiosity rover has brought us countless images from the red planet, some mundane, but others truly unusual. In 2012, the ever-dependable rover captured yet another peculiar image of a shiny object that did not quite match any of the planet’s surroundings.
The bizarre finding caused numerous suggestions including hilarious theories such as the object being Jimmy Hoffa’s cufflink or an AOL CD. After a bit of investigation, however, it was concluded that the piece of plastic was nothing more than a part of Curiosity itself that had curiously fallen off.
