Cyntoia Brown was sentenced to life imprisonment after she was found guilty of murdering a 43-year-old man named Jonny Allen. Brown was 16-years-old at the time and was being sex-trafficked.
According to Brown, the man paid her to have sex with him but she feared for her life and shot him in self-defense. However, according to court docs, Brown murdered the man while he was sleeping in order to rob him.
Cyntoia’s story gained worldwide coverage and after a lot of protests from supporters and activists, she received an early release on Aug, 7, 2019.

During her time in prison, she received her degree and married R&B musician Jaime Long. Details about how the two met is being revealed in her memoir Free Cyntoia: My Search for Redemption in the American Prison System.
Jaime Long was also married to former Total singer Pamela Long.
