To answer Deelishis’ question, yes, a cold sore is herpes, but it’s not the same variant as genital herpes. It is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), while genital herpes is caused by HSV-2. Cold sores are spread from person to person by close contact, such as kissing and also oral sex with someone who has HSV-2.
