Feather at the End
While the film began with the feather falling, it also ended with another feather falling, its near-weightless form just flowing with the wind. The feather travels all through town, goes under a car, and eventually lands near Forrest’s shoes as he waits for yet another bus.
The feather acts as a metaphor throughout the film, linking Gump’s innocence at the beginning to the hardships he eventually overcame at the end. It shows us that we cannot control the events that happen in our lives and while some things happen through destiny, some occur as sheer luck.
