Forrest Gump: The Novel
Forrest Gump is a 1986 novel written by Winston Groom. When it was first released, it only sold 30,000 copies. Following the film’s release, sales shot up to 1.6 million copies, which led Groom to feel that he was cheated out of money by the company.
Groom went on to write a sequel to the novel following the film’s success, and the company agreed to pay Groom over $1,000,000 for the rights to the book, Gump & Co. A film was also in the works with Roth behind the screenplay again, but nothing has come of it yet.
