The Unused Script
Although Winston Groom wrote the novel upon which the film was based, the screenplay was written by Eric Roth. Groom was initially appointed to write the script, but his version was later scrapped.
Eric Roth wrote the final script which went on to win the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Groom wasn’t at all upset with the changes in the screenplay writing and said that he was just happy that the film captured so many hearts.
