Making $600 Million
The movie started off with a budget of $55 million. It earned $24 million on the first weekend of its release, placing it firmly in the top spot, replacing The Lion King. While it eventually made $600 million, it wasn’t considered financially successful when it was first released.

It took the film 66 days to go beyond the $250 million mark and even more time for it to reach its monumental $600 million in worldwide revenue. Despite the huge numbers, the film was called a successful failure, because the exhibitors and distributors had exorbitant fees, leaving Paramount with a $62 million loss.
