Getting the Lead Role
Several famous actors were considered for the role of Forrest Gump before they turned it down. On the short list were John Travolta, Chevy Chase, and Billy Murray. John Travolta was initially the producers’ favorite actor for the lead, and he admitted to later on regretting the decision.
John Travolta turned down the role for another project, specifically Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. Travolta would eventually go on to be nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his role in the film. It served to boost his career and helped earn him a place on Hollywood’s A-list.
