Novel vs. Film
There are some stark differences when you look at how Forrest was portrayed in the book versus how he is in the film. In the book, Forrest is aware of who he is and what’s happening around him, even saying that people treat him different because he’s an idiot. The book also describes him as 6’6” tall and weighing 240 pounds.
In the film version, Forrest was more of a passive, naïve, and impulsive character, as shown in the chocolate scene. The film also did away with some events from the book, including Forrest becoming an astronaut, joining a chess tournament, and running for a position in the US Senate.
