Back in 1997, Lawrence found himself in a lot of trouble with the law including getting arrested for acting erratically while waving a gun in the middle of an intersection. Later that year, Campbell quit the show while still on contract, and the producers decided to sue her.

Campbell countersued with the accusations against Lawrence. They later reached an out of court settlement where she returned to the show, but only to film scenes separate from him.
