This is not the first time that Kim has been dragged for darkening her skin to look more “ethnic.” Two years ago, for a shoot for her beauty brand KKW Beauty, she appeared much darker than she is, sending fans into a frenzy. She issued an apology saying, “I would obviously never want to offend anyone. I used an amazing photographer and a team of people. I was really tan when we shot the images, and it might be that the contrast was off… But I showed the image to many people, to many in the business. No one brought that to our attention. No one mentioned it.”

Last year she posted a photo of herself wearing Fulani braids, a hairstyle which originated in Africa, but called them “Bo Derek braids.” Again she issued an apology.
