He Chose Hamlet Over Heat
To be or not to be, that is the question. When asked this question in 1995, Keanu chose not to be. He was apparently offered a role alongside Al Pacino and Robert Deniro in the now iconic movie Heat, but he turned it down. As we know, the part was eventually taken by Val Kilmer.
The big question is, why did he decline the fantastic opportunity? Reeves couldn’t take the role because he had moved to Winnipeg to play the title role in the Manitoba Theatre Centre’s production of Hamlet. The play was a success, with sold-out shows every night, and fans visiting from all over the country and the globe to witness his take on Hamlet.
