Last month, Serena Williams caught fans by surprise when she announced her retirement, hinting that she may be planning to “grow her family.”
Well, now we know the reason for her impending retirement.
In an essay for Vogue, the 40-year-old superstar athlete stated that pregnancy and later being a mother wasn’t easy while balancing her tennis career.
“I went from a C-section to a second pulmonary embolism to a grand slam final. I played while breastfeeding. I played through postpartum depression. But I didn’t get there,” she wrote.

“But these days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter,” she added.
