Rumors had been swirling for more than a year about Dwyane Wade’s 12-year-old son Zion and the possibility of him being a transgender.
Dwyane, 38, later put all those rumors to rest after he confirmed his son’s new identity on Ellen Degeneres show. He revealed that Zion would like to be known as ‘Zaya’ going forward and he also shared that the family is happy with her decision.
The father-of-four recalled that Zaya came home one day and said: “I think going forward, I’m ready to live my truth. And I want to be referenced as she and her. I’d love for you guys to call me Zaya.”
“Our child comes home with an issue, our child comes home with anything, it’s our job as parents to listen to that, to give them the best information we can, to give the best feedback we can,” Dwyane said on the show. “And that doesn’t change because sexuality is now involved in it.”
