Dlamini chose her stage name, “Doja Cat”, from one of her cats and her favorite weed. She stated, “I was heavily addicted to weed and weed culture, so when I began rapping I thought of the word ‘doja’ and how it sounds like a girl’s name.
But while she claims to be proud of her heritage, after she released some new promo pictures, her skin was visibly lighter.
