The Islamic Republic of Iran Army established its Navy division on November 5, 1932. The force is now so powerful they’ve one-upped Russia, appearing at number four on the world rankings. Having such a formidable force is an important strategic move because they are the first line of defense across the Gulf of Oman.
Having a total of 398 naval assets, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy makes use of ten mine warfare vessels, five frigates, 33 submarines, 230 patrol crafts, three corvettes, and 33 submarines. And there’s more room for upgrades as they have a $6.3 billion defense budget to spend.
