The disunion of the Imperial Japanese Navy on July 1, 1954, made way for the development of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (also known as the Japanese Navy). Today, the naval force is made up of 45,800 soldiers.
These soldiers are needed to operate the 143 naval assets Japan has under its command, all funded by a $44 billion defense budget. With over 36 destroyers, 25 mine warfare vessels, six corvettes, 17 submarines, and four aircraft carriers, the land of the rising sun sits confidently as their economy and their defense force both continue to thrive.
