20 Smart Actors Portraying Dumb Characters

When actors and actresses play certain characters effectively, it is quite easy to forget just who they are in real life. So when they play dumb characters, you might be surprised once you find out that they are actually smart when they are themselves. Here are some of the intelligent stars who have portrayed dumb characters at one point in their career.

1. Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson

Rowan Atkinson is best recognized for playing Mr. Bean, a goofy, silly, and childish character who is a bumbling loner with a series of misadventures in life. He plays it perfectly that you’d be shocked how Atkinson holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Newcastle University and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from The Queens College, Oxford, the same college that made him an Honorary Fellow in 2006. Despite having had cinematic success after his roles in the Mr. Bean movie adaptations “Bean” and “Mr. Bean’s Holiday,” Atkinson himself admitted that the role is childish and that he no longer wants to keep playing it as he grows older.

2. Ken Jeong

Ken Jeong’s most prominent role is probably as Leslie Chow in “The Hangover” trilogy, but the real Ken is a doctor. He juggled his residency and work as a doctor with being a stand-up comedian. His breakthrough role was as Dr. Kuni in “Knocked Up,” a role that convinced him he can afford to go into Hollywood and quit his work as a doctor. Now, he is the lead actor in the ABC sitcom “Dr. Ken,” where he is also the creator, executive producer, and writer.
